A flying dress photoshoot in Turkey
The flying dress is one of the most popular shoot formats on the coast. A long train in the wind, the sea and the sunset make photos you'll want as your profile picture. Here's how to prepare.
Where to shoot
- Side, the Temple of Apollo: columns and sunset over the sea, the most striking backdrop for a flying dress.
- Antalya, the Lower Düden waterfall and Konyaaltı beach: a cliff above the sea or mountains behind you.
- Alanya, Cleopatra Beach and the castle: turquoise water or a panorama of the bay from above.
- The beach by your hotel: if you'd rather not travel, there's a breeze everywhere by the sea.
When to shoot
An hour before sunset is best: the fabric is backlit and glows. Sunrise works too, and there's almost nobody around. At midday the fabric looks flat, and posing in the heat is hard.
Which colour to choose
- Red and coral: maximum contrast with turquoise water, the dress is visible from afar.
- Yellow and gold: they glow at sunset.
- White and powder pink: soft and light, especially by ancient columns.
- Emerald and blue: striking, but against the sea you need pale stone or sand so the dress doesn't blend in.
Where to get a dress
You can bring your own: light fabrics like chiffon or tulle with a long train work best. Resort towns also have studios that rent flying dresses. If you need advice, I'll tell you what to look for.
How to pose in the wind
- Stand with your back or side to the wind so the fabric flies sideways, not into your face.
- Keep moving: walk, twirl, lift the edge of the skirt. Flying shots happen in motion.
- If there's no wind, an assistant or your partner tosses the hem from outside the frame.
- Relax your shoulders and hands, keep your face soft. I'll guide every move.
Other things to know
- Bring comfortable shoes to get there. In the photos you're usually barefoot.
- Tie your hair up or keep it lightly styled: loose hair will blow across your face.
- Wear nude underwear under a long dress: it shows through in backlight.
- A flying dress shoot fits the 1-hour package (€79). For two locations or two dresses, choose 2 hours (€129).
Tell me which town you're staying in, and I'll suggest a spot and time where the wind and the light are on your side.
